Wine Enthusiast 90 points - This unaged whiskey has a malty, slightly raw aroma. Although it’s predictably hot at first, it fades into a pleasantly fruity finish. Most moonshines go the other way, with flavor fading into heat. This is a nice change. Recommended for cocktail use, especially for bloody marys. - K.N.
White Pike Whiskey is a refined spirit made from a signature blend of locally grown corn, spelt and malted wheat. Distilled with precision and aged 18 minutes. White Pike is rich through the middle and finishes smooth, still young enough to mix in ways brown whiskeys won’t. Master Distiller Thomas Earl says: “Smells like harvest time in a cornfield but in a creamy kind of way. This stuff is good as a mixer or a little nip with a taste of water behind it. Just the way I like it.”
|The Finger Lakes Distilling story begins in 2007, when Brian McKenzie of Elmira, N.Y., met Thomas Earl McKenzie of Monroeville, Ala., at a craft distiller’s conference.
The two men aren’t related, but they did discover they shared a passion for high-quality, distilled spirits.
Brian, a former bank vice-president, had experience in finance and was interested in starting his own business. Thomas Earl’s background included wine-making, brewing, farming and consulting for distilleries. It was a fateful meeting - and a great match of talents to start a new distillery.
Today, they are well on their way to realizing a dream of working with good friends and family to create products they can offer with pride.
