Vinous 87 points - Dark red cherries, plums, spices and leather jump from the glass in the 2013 Pinot Noir High Serenity Ranch Vineyard. Unapologetically rich and racy, this forward, juicy Pinot is all about fruit. This is another fabulous value for what it is; a ripe, full-bodied Pinot to enjoy in its youth.
Aromatically the wine offers seductive notes of dark cranberries, cola and raspberries. The mouth-feel is lush, round and silky-smooth. The forward fruit character is further enhanced by toasted chestnut and leather aromas. The interplay of these components balanced by its refreshing acidity make for an incredibly hedonistic Pinot Noir. Perfect food pairings include roasted leg of lamb, wild mushroom risotto or truffled mac and cheese.
|Wine maker notes
|Fruit for the Pinot Noir was grown from three estate vineyard blocks, planted to a mix of Dijon (115, 667, 777, 828) and Pommard (UCD 4) clones. The location of each of these blocks was chosen because they are the coldest sites on the High Serenity Ranch vineyard. The low gap in the ridge above the vineyard allows cooled lake air from Clear Lake to spill into High Valley producing Pinot Noir with more intense varietal character, better color extraction and excellent acid retention.
