Wine Advocate 87 points - This is one of my go-to wineries for top values from the Barossa Valley in Australia. The Thorn family has been growing grapes since the 1870s, and the quality of these wines is impressive. Moreover, the prices are almost ridiculously low, making these wines frequent entries in The Wine Advocate. All of the following wines are produced from 100% Barossa Valley fruit from what they call the Kabininge Vineyard. The 2012 Terra Barossa Shiraz (aged 12 months in American oak) exhibits lots of toasty oak, sweet blackberry fruit, licorice, tar and a subtle hint of herbs in the background. Medium-bodied, soft, and round, it can be drunk over the next several years. (Nov 2014)

Wine maker notes
This range pays tribute to the ideal grape growing terroir of the Barossa. The free draining soil structure combined with the continental climate of warm days and cool nights enables us to produce elegant wines with good varietal characters. The Terra Barossa range was developed initially for export markets, and comprises of three popular red varietals and a red blend - all of which offer outstanding value for money. The range is named is named in honour of the rich soils in the region which are a major factor in the Barossa’s reputation as one of the great wine regions of the world. All of the grapes are from our Thorn-Clarke estate vineyards in the Barossa, and the wines are handmade with the dedication of our winemaking team. The Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and blend (Shiraz / Cabernet / Petit Verdot) are primarily sourced from our St Kitts and Milton Park vineyards with a small amount of fruit from the Kabininge vineyard located near Tanunda.

The Thorn-Clarke Philosophy Our ancestors settled in the Barossa in the 1870’s and for six generations we have been involved in the wine industry. Over those 140 years a lot has changed in the Barossa however many features of the region have remained constant, many of the observations over the years have been the foundation for what is today our philosophy. We take a long-term view of the future, and out goal is to ensure our children and the next six generations inherit a successful, respected, and environmentally sustainable business. We recognise and value the role that our suppliers, distributors, retailers and customers play in this goal and we seek to develop long-term partnerships based on loyalty, trust and quality. The Quality Objective Given our plans to be a premium wine producer well into the future, producing high quality regional wines with character, that also offer our customers value is critical. From the time our first vineyards were established we have been extremely thorough in ensuring all the ingredients for success were in place. Our four vineyards have all been site selected to ensure we can provide the ideal growing conditions for each variety. The attention to detail carries through to the winemaking side, with our winery located at the Milton Park vineyard – here at the winery we ensure that our wines over deliver in quality across a number of different price points. In summary; Regional Barossa and Eden Valley wines, grown on family owned vineyards with the utmost care taken from the vineyards to the bottle. This ensures every time our customers purchase a bottle of Thorn-Clarke wine, they know where it is from, the care taken and the outstanding quality and value offered.
