Ultimate Beverage Challenge 93 points - (Ultimate Beverage Collection, FinalistTried & True Award) Garnet hue and ruby rim appearance. Dark oak dominates the nose, while big, jammy, cooked fruits attack the palate. Morello cherry confiture, blackcurrant jam and cocoa powder all linger in the mouth. The tannins are rather soft and luscious in this full-bodied and gutsy wine. (Jul 2015)
Fresh, bright berry fruit from our heritage Russian River vineyard combined with the ripe peppery jamminess from our Alexander Valley vineyards make for wonderful diversity of flavor showcasing the best that zinfandel can offer in one wine. Aging for 10 months in French and American oak enhances the zinfandelís inherent spicy qualities, while the ebullient fruit of this medium rich wine suggests enjoyment over the next 2 to 4 years.
|"Sunny black raspberry and blackberry flavors come up against an edge of mineral tannin, potent enough to cut the sweetness of the fruit while managing to lengthen its flavor. This is a firm zin, with enough refreshing acidity to match orecchiette with fennel sausage and broccoli rabe."
|Our story begins more than 50 years ago, when a celebrated American dancer named Rod Strong settled in Sonoma County to pursue a second lifelong creative passion: winemaking. Rodney Strong Vineyards was the 13th winery bonded in the newly discovered Sonoma County wine industry. A trio of winemaking paths crossed when Rick Sayre joined the team as Winemaker in 1979, and again when the Klein Family, 4th generation California farmers, purchased the winery in 1989 and initiated a renewed commitment of modern artisan winemaking. Through the years, Rodney Strong Vineyards has earned the reputation for critically acclaimed Single Vineyard and Reserve wines, stand out Estate releases and best-in-class Sonoma County varietal wines.
